Caroline O'Connor

Currently starring in the smash hit musical comedy “Anything Goes”, Caroline O’Connor took time out from her busy schedule to catch up with Journalist Jo-Anne Hui and Art Director Nina Christian from Mahlab Media for an interview and photoshoot for “Active Retirees” magazine.  Always the consummate professional, Caroline was a delight to work with and didn’t hesitate to jump into any pose we required!  A really enjoyable shoot.

Ita Buttrose

At Studio Commercial we don’t only photograph Corporate Photography really well, we also do an amazing job Editorial photography.

Photographing in the Studio for this issue of Active Retirees “The Fashion Issue” with the power house duo Nina and Jo from Mahlab Media, we had the pleasure of photographing Australian legend Ita Buttrose for the cover.  Ita’s years of media and magazine experience showed as she taught us a thing or two during the shoot.

March One Advertising Agency

This shoot was for our friends at March One Advertising Agency. The concept was by the senior designer Dan Crozier (the guy in the middle). The image features the staff of the agency and was used in the Promax awards magazine. Promax is a global community of professionals in the marketing and promotional television industry. If you have a concept that you want to bring to life, the Studio Commercial team can make it a reality.

Activewear Brazil (Pink Sun)

Since returning to work after baby number 2, I have mostly been concentrating on the admin side of things at the studio, living vicariously through the boys as they continue to do some amazing photography work. Having said that:

I recently had the great pleasure of working with Lienke de Bruin, the brains behind Activewear Brazil.

Already a supplier of high quality workout apparel made in Brazil, and being the entrepreneur that she is, Lienke decided she wanted more than what was on offer. So she did what any mother of 2 young boys would do, she decided to start her own label! The amazing result is the newly launched label Pink Sun. Designed in Australia and made in Brazil using the innovative sportswear fabric Supplex, Pink Sun is a refreshing combination of colourful prints & high quality gear, now available to the global market.

We had a fun day in the studio, working with gorgeous model Dani Bonnor. Shooting all of the amazing garments on a white background made the clothing to really pop and allowed for greater flexibility with graphic design post-production.

I loved working with Lienke, applaud her determined hard work, and wish her every success.

Thanks for reading, Vanessa.

Hello Summer!

Fashion Shoot: Saxony

This summer’s collection by Saxony had lots of layers and dark colours. We had to photograph it so that every garment was distinguishable and textured without making the image look flat.

It’s a real pleasure working with Saxony. They have a clear concept that focuses in on the styling of the clothing. The fabric and folds are paramount.

Bicycling Australia: Fashion Shoot

It’s always a busy day when you have five models, more than a dozen wardrobe changes and sixteen images to create.

By 9am our studio was covered in cycling gear and our clothes rack was used to stack bicycles that cost more than a small car.

This was the third year that we’ve shot the Bicycling Australia annual fashion shoot, it’s the largest segment of the magazine and we’re really excited to continue to be a part of it.

It’s really fun for the models to work with the props, most of them were riders and could appreciate the gear. We’re really passionate about cycling as well, so I love getting the little details right. It has to look realistic because cyclists are going to know at a glance if the model is holding the handlebars the wrong way.

The client wanted the photography to be fun and approachable. Cycling can be intimidated so we wanted to make this gear look easily accessible to those that are just starting out. It was loads of fun to shoot something that we’re so enthusiastic about.

Fashion Photo Shoot: Latitude

In late May we alluded to a fashion shoot that we can now talk about in all it’s glory.

Studio Commercial and the folks from Latitude Montagut took part in a three day fashion marathon.

We photographed twins Jordon and Zachary Stenmark and Nick Boogert against a multitude of changing backgrounds. The highlight was the amazing Seidler House; wedged atop a mountain in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, it was a beautiful piece of architecture. On the second day, we launched into look book shots and as it got darker, we hit the streets of Sydney to take some night life photos.

The third day was spent at the Sugar Mill, listening to 70s funk and mixing faux drinks for our models.

Enjoy the behind the scenes video and as always, let us know what you think.
